Born and raised in a family of musicians, Lothar Strauß, one of Germany's leading concertmasters, grew up in Berlin and began playing the violin at the age of five. Due to his outstanding talent, he joined the master class of Professor Werner Scholz at Berlin’s Hanns Eisler Academy of Music at the age of fifteen. Having won numerous awards in international competitions, he was appointed the youngest concertmaster in the history of the Staatskapelle Berlin Orchestra at the age of twenty-two, while still a student. Since then, he has led the orchestra on tours with Daniel Barenboim, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle and other conductors, and has traveled all over the world as a solo and chamber musician, fascinating audiences worldwide. In addition to major German orchestras, he has been invited as a soloist and guest concertmaster by orchestras in Venezuela, Spain, Singapore, Japan and Switzerland. Apart from classical music, he regularly participates in film music recordings and plays with baroque music masters such as Giovanni Antonini and Ton Koopman. For more than forty years, Lothar Strauß has been passionate about teaching. After appointments at the University of the Arts in Berlin and the Leipzig Music Academy, he became a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, one of the world’s most prestigious schools. He is a sought-after teacher who actively advises students on questions of employment and paves the way for them in the music world.
